Since 2017 at least 29 North Atlantic right whales have been found dead along the East Coast, and there are now just 400 individuals left on Earth.

Entanglement in commercial fishing gear is the number one cause of right whale injury and death. When a whale gets tangled up, lines cut into its flesh, sapping its strength. They often drown or are left permanently injured. It's heartbreaking — but together we have the power to get these endangered whales back on the road to recovery.

Tell the National Marine Fisheries Service to enact immediate measures to prevent whale entanglements.

Scientists estimate there are at least a million fishing lines in right whale habitat, creating a deadly obstacle course for whales while feeding and migrating. And federal officials have repeatedly said that current regulations aren't protective enough.

The time for talk is over: Urge the Fisheries Service to move forward now and strengthen protections for North Atlantic right whales by safeguarding important habitat areas and enacting measures developed with stakeholders this past spring.
