Dear John,
Moments ago, the Supreme Court overturned the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling that Trump disqualified himself from holding office again when he engaged in insurrection.1 The highest court in the land says Donald Trump can run for president, despite the constitutional prohibition on insurrectionists holding office again.
While this ruling flies in the face of a basic reading of the 14th Amendment, at least now it's clear: Trump is on ballot. And MAGA primary voters are making this twice-impeached, four-times criminally indicted insurrectionist their nominee for president.2
And since Trump is going to be on the ballot in November, we're going to have to do everything in our power to defeat him at the polls ... again!
It had been obvious to the majority of Americans for years that Donald Trump was not fit to be president. But on January 6, as he incited a crowd to join the white supremacist-led assault on our country occurring at the Capitol building, the reality sank in of what it meant for someone willing to do anything to cling to power to become truly desperate.
That person, Donald Trump, must not be given the power of the presidency again. The Constitution made sure to exclude him and all oath-breaking insurrectionists from being considered for public office again. But the Supreme Court ruled that individual states do not have the authority to disqualify Trump.3
Since the court has deemed that states cannot ban Trump from the ballot, we have no choice but to launch into our election program to defeat him at the polls!
MoveOn is prepared for this moment. November is months away, but we've launched our election program earlier than ever before in our 25-year history to make sure that we can give it our all to defeat Donald Trump and his election-denying MAGA Republican enablers when they appear on the ballot. We'll do it with a massive voter contact program to turn out the anti-MAGA majority that wants accountability.
For over a year, MoveOn members across the country have been urging secretaries of state and election officials to remove Trump from the ballot. Just ahead of the oral arguments in this case, our petition to disqualify him reached over 500,000 signers!4
It's been made clear that the highest court won't hold him accountable, so now it's up to us. Voters will have the final say in November, and it's up to us to defeat him again.
Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? The MAGA movement's book bans have forced teachers and librarians across the country to remove books from their shelves and censor what young people can learn. MoveOn is fighting back, including by filling a "Banned Bookmobile" with books that the far right has banned and driving it to key cities and towns to raise the visibility of book bans, hand out banned books for free, and bring people together to stop censorship. To keep up the fight against book bans and the MAGA politicians who support them, we need your help.
