Opill to Hit Shelves Very Soon
Today, the pharmaceutical company Perrigo announced that it will begin shipping the first ever FDA-approved over-the-counter (OTC) daily oral contraceptive pill, Opill, to retailers across the country. This marks a historic advancement in access to contraception, which for decades advocates have been fighting for. Additionally, Perrigo recommended a retail price of $19.99 for a one-month supply of Opill.
In response, Power to Decide’s CEO, Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley released a statement on the announcement and the importance of affordability to meaningfully expand access to birth control.

Federal Update
What Congress Needs to Get Done in 2024 from a Reproductive Well-Being Perspective
On February 7th, Power to Decide’s Senior Manager, Public Policy, published a blog detailing what actions Congress needs to take to safeguard reproductive health, rights, and justice for all. For the remaining half of the 118th Congress, it is paramount that Members of Congress take action in support of reproductive well-being, to hear from those directly impacted, increase funding to critical sexual and reproductive health programs, and pass proactive legislation to further safeguard access to contraception and abortion.
Tune in for the State of the Union on March 7
On Wednesday, March 7, President Biden will deliver his State of the Union address to both chambers of Congress and millions of people watching. It is widely expected that the President will address the impacts of attacks on access to reproductive health care, including the ongoing crisis in access to abortion care in the wake of the Dobbs decision. State Update
States Work to Protect the Right to Contraception
In the US Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Justice Thomas’ concurring opinion called for the review of other “substantive due process precedents,” including the right for married couples to use contraception decided by Griswald v Connecticut. Unsurprisingly, this has sparked concern at the state and federal level. This year alone, Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia have introduced legislation to establish the right to obtain and use contraception.
