Addressing Hospital Closures
Dear Neighbors,
Last week, Minnesota Management and Budget released the February Budget and Economic Forecast [ [link removed] ]. The forecast shows a state economy that continues to grow and a stable state budget. DFLers are committed to ensuring all Minnesotans can earn a good living, have the freedoms they deserve, and build a better life. You can read the full release on the budget forecast from House Speaker Melissa Hortman here [ [link removed] ].

Providing Transparency in Hospital Closures
There is an unfortunate trend of rural hospitals, healthcare clinics, and birthing centers closing down, or being consolidated into offsite healthcare facilities. In Minnesota alone, over 10 closures have occurred across our state, from New Prague to Fergus Falls, Fosston to New Ulm. These services can often end abruptly, without time for members of the community to respond.
Smith Committee
That?s why I authored HF-3700 [ [link removed] ], to bring clarity and transparency to the process of a healthcare facility closure by setting a strict timeline and notification requirements. It also seeks to empower the local community where that closure is happening, giving local groups time for recourse if they think the closing is happening unjustly, or adjust their healthcare plans for future care.

2023 Tax Bill Programs
Last year we passed a tax bill that prioritized making life more affordable for working families, parents, and seniors. I?m proud to serve as a member of the Tax Committee and will continue pushing for policies that make our tax system more equitable.
Now that tax season is upon us, I wanted to share some information about various programs you may be eligible for this year, including the Child Tax Credit [ [link removed] ], Property Tax Refund [ [link removed] ], Social Security Income Exemption [ [link removed] ], and the K-12 Credit and Subtraction [ [link removed] ].
