I have been a nurse for 30 years and have seen unintentional trauma result in fatalities due to my rural location. As a current Texas School Nurse, I want everyone to have access to and take a STOP THE BLEED® course so we can all be prepared to save a life with bleeding control. Unfortunately with the rise in public school shootings, STOP THE BLEED® programs and STOP THE BLEED® kits are in all of our schools. I would love to see all citizens want to learn how to STOP THE BLEED® so that distance will not hinder emergency response, especially rurally, so that we will see more survivors from injuries. As a Nurse, I know that uncontrolled bleeding is the #1 cause of preventable death from trauma, and I want everyone I come in contact with to be aware of this as well. Accidents happen anywhere, not just at school. The greater number of people who know how to stop the bleed in an injured person the greater the chance of survival will occur. In closing, all should be equipped in Texas and nationwide with STOP THE BLEED® knowledge and therefore decrease the loss of life due to traumatic bleeding.
