Hey John -

The Arlington Young Dems want to thank the essential community workers, first responders, and healthcare workers who are on the front lines fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. Just as you sacrifice for us, we will to support you in every way we can.

The past few weeks haven’t been easy for any of us. We’re all isolated and worried about our family, friends, and community. There’s no playbook for what we’re going through . We are physically apart from one another and social distancing can be difficult.

The Arlington Young Dems Executive Board has been hard at work doing what we can to help everyone along this journey. Take a look at what we have been developing below to see how you can continue to be involved as we navigate this together.

AYD presents a new Weekly Virtual Town Hall Series.

During one the longest periods of crisis in our nation’s history, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt hosted a series of radio updates from 1933 - 1944 entitled, “Fireside Chats” to help inform and calm the American people. Now as we head into the second recession that our generation has experienced and are in the greatest pandemic since 1918, people are looking for that same comfort. We may not have the authority (let alone the reach) of the Oval Office, but what we do have is you all, an engaged community of activists and Democrats who want to know what’s going on.

Over the course of the next few weeks, AYD will bring you interviews and question and answers sessions from our community’s leaders and issue experts to make sure you are the most informed you can be. We will be broadcasting live on Facebook at the beginning of each week where our guests will give us updates on their respective areas of expertise, as well as answer questions from our audience members. We will be collecting these questions ahead of time via Google Form, which we will send out in each week’s newsletter.

Our first interview will be a conversation between AYD Vice President Matt Royer and Arlington County Board Member Katie Cristol. Katie Cristol is a 2nd term member of the Arlington County Board and a fellow Young Democrat. She will be updating us on what the Arlington County Government is doing in response to the COVID-19 outbreak here in our county and the surrounding area. Katie will also have time to answer any pressing questions you may have.

DONATE NOW [[link removed]]
The Arlington Young Dems have established a community fund which aims to assist local organizations on the front lines of COVID-19. While many of us may be able to work from home, there are a number of community members who do not have such a luxury. Over the next month we aim to raise $1,000 within our community to support organizations fighting the impact of this disease from financial support to medical supplies for healthcare workers. AYD is looking to do its part in fighting this pandemic.

The AYD Community Fund will support:

AYD COVID-19 Resource Hub
We’ve rolled out a new section on our website dedicated to giving the most up to date information on resources in Arlington County to help assist people in need due to COVID-19. We’re updating guidelines from the Center for Disease Control, pulling in resources we’re receiving from the county government, and adding in new community service opportunities as we continue to build a coalition for good here in our county. We want this to be your one stop resource to get you through this difficult time.

Here’s what we have so far:
