Prayer Partner Weekly Update
March 28, 2020

"He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me."

– 2 Samuel 22:20

Africa & Europe

  • Pray for our teams in Africa as governments respond to a growing number of COVID-19 cases. Ghana, Kenya and Uganda all have confirmed cases, and have begun to take preventive measures. Our IJM teams there are working from home, or moving toward working from home. Pray for our teams as they determine the best way to do this despite limited internet access and electricity in some areas where our staff live. Pray also for our aftercare team in Kenya as they check on clients and make decisions about providing special assistance to families that will struggle to afford food as businesses are closed and work is not available.

Latin America

  • Continue praying for the church in Latin America as they work alongside our teams protecting children and women from sexual violence, sex trafficking and other forms of violent crimes. In the field, we work closely with local churches as key actors of transformation in their communities. Together, we protect the most vulnerable and restore thousands of survivors of violence. Pray that in this season, the church in Latin America would unite and continue to feel empowered and passionate about seeking justice as they advance God's kingdom on earth.

South Asia

  • Praise God for a network of survivor leaders taking care of their community during COVID-19. IJM has been working with the Released Bonded Laborers' Association to hand out hygiene kits and educate vulnerable families on how to protect themselves. So far, they've reached out to 1,500+ people in just a few days. Pray for their ongoing work to help at-risk survivors and families stay safe.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for the conviction and sentencing of four traffickers in Cambodia last week who had recruited two girls, ages 12 and 16, to work as maids in Malaysia. Instead of finding well-paid jobs, the girls were not paid, and the main recruiter sexually assaulted the 12-year-old and threatened the girls when they wanted to return home to Cambodia. They were rescued by Malaysian authorities in 2019, with support from IJM. Pray for the arrest of one of the perpetrators who remains at-large.

IJM HQ & Global Partners

IJM headquarters is located in the United States. IJM has international advancement offices in Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

  • Thank you for praying for our interns and fellows last week. Praise God that those who chose to travel back to their country of origin have all been able to return safely to their families.
  • You may have noticed that we've been sharing stories of hope from our survivors. Please pray that these stories would be an encouragement during this uncertain time, and that they would open the door for many new people to explore the work God is doing through IJM.
