FIRST: On the campaign trail, Joe Biden vowed to decriminalize marijuana, but he hasn't yet. If Biden is truly committed to social and racial justice, he needs to keep his promise to decriminalize marijuana and free those incarcerated on possession charges.

THEN: Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services has recommended that marijuana be reclassified as a Schedule III drug, down from a Schedule I, under the Controlled Substances Act. In short, the Biden admin has stopped short of federally decriminalizing the drug and overturning all convictions related to marijuana possession.

NOW: We’ve joined forces with Daily Kos to demand that President Biden keep his promise and decriminalize the usage and possession of marijuana. Reclassification doesn't solve the problem: it maintains criminal punishment of possession of marijuana and upholds the racial inequity we constantly see in sentencing of these charges.

We deserve a transition towards comprehensive solutions like the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act that would end federal prohibition and criminalization of marijuana, leading towards a more just and equitable society.
