This is a worst-case scenario? ? ? Friend ? we reached out yesterday with the horrifying news that the Trump administration has issued a suspension on enforcement of environmental laws. This is a worst case scenario. There has been no end date set to the policy.

How long this goes on for ? and how bad it gets ? depends on how the environmental movement responds. We must fight this on every front ? flooding House and Senate offices with calls and letters asking them to get the EPA to do its job, exploring legal action, and organizing (online) around the country.

Right now, we're turning to our members for help. Since yesterday, hundreds of people from all over the country have pitched in ? many making emergency donations, and many starting monthly contributions to prepare for the fight ahead.

Right now, a donor is triple matching every contribution to our response efforts. The best thing you can do right now is to make a donation, while you can make triple the impact ? even $5 can make a huge difference ? [link removed]

Earlier this week, oil and gas lobbyists quietly sent a letter to the Trump administration, asking them to waive rules they call "non-essential."

These so-called "non-essential" safeguards provide oversight over hazardous waste management, drinking water testing, tank inspections, chemical testing requirements, oil and gas leak detection, and much more.

These "non-essential" safeguards directly affect people's health and safety. Waiving them will disproportionately harm low-income residents and communities of color ? people who are already struggling to deal with the devastating effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Here's the thing ? as predatory and opportunistic the oil industry's request sounds, the Trump administration took it a step further. They didn't just pause the policies industry groups were asking for. They've paused enforcement on almost everything. I'm sure you agree with me when I say that protecting the health of communities from air and water pollution is essential, particularly during a public health emergency, and shouldn't be waived at industry's convenience and request.

With no set end date to the policy, we need to work quickly to get the EPA back online. Every day this is in place is a day pollution could be ramped up significantly ? putting public health directly at risk. We need to raise the alarm as loudly as possible.

Anything you can pitch in right now will make a huge difference. We need to raise $100,000 by the end of the month, because we are fighting on multiple fronts right now. News like this means that it is even more vital that we reach our goal. Here's where things stand right now:
