Welcome to another edition of FT Now! We're going to keep things
relatively brief today, and start with one thing you really need to
know: Congress and the White House reached a deal on a $2 trillion
Coronavirus relief package. Read below to find out what that means for
you. In other news, today marks 75 years since the bloody battle at Iwo
Jima during World War II. While we're all hunkered down and practicing
social distancing, let's take some time to remember the heroic
sacrifices so many Americans have made before us.

White House Reaches Deal With Lawmakers on $2 Trillion Coronavirus
Stimulus Bill

What Happened:

After days of delay and extended negotiations (thanks to Nancy Pelosi
and Chuck Schumer), the Senate reached a deal this week on a $2 trillion
Coronavirus relief package.

Why You Should Care:

The bill is meant to inject stimulus into the economy and help Americans
suffering due to the economic impacts of the Coronavirus outbreak,
which, let's be honest, is most people. Senate Majority Leader Mitch
McConnell called it a "wartime level of investment into our nation."

What Happens Next:

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said checks should go out within three
weeks. If you filed your taxes in 2018, you don't necessarily need to
do anything before getting your check, but it's worth reading up on
how the IRS will determine who gets what.

state and local elections matter.

Iwo Jima Ceremony Cancelled Due to Coronavirus

**In other news**...Today marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of
Iwo Jima. If there's ever been a time to remember that many Americans
before us have been put through more adversity and been asked to make
harder sacrifices, now would be that time.

For 36 days, 70,000 U.S. troops fought against Japanese forces in what
became one of the bloodiest battles in Marine Corps history. And when
all hope seemed lost...a symbol was raised and an iconic image became
cemented in American history. While the Iwo Jima Reunion of Honor
ceremony had to be canceled because of Coronavirus, we owe it to
America's Greatest Generation to remember their sacrifices today.
