Friend, real quick — during an interview this week with our Mayor, CNN's Wolf Blitzer insinuated that Coronavirus could have been prevented had Mardi Gras been canceled, and our New Orleans friends are NOT having it:
Clancy DuBos, Gambit.com — "Blitzer quizzed Cantrell repeatedly about not canceling Mardi Gras and whether she regretted not doing so. She responded that she had seen 'no red flags' from the feds expressly warning the city to call off Mardi Gras. Cantrell cast blame at President Donald Trump, who played down the significance of the pandemic even after Mardi Gras. 'When it’s not taken seriously on the federal level, it’s very difficult to transcend down to the local level in making these decisions,' she said."
Stephanie Grace, NOLA.com — "Here’s what’s not only not important, but downright offensive: Any suggestion that New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell was singularly irresponsible in not canceling the weeks-long street party back in February. Insinuating so, as some network interviewers are doing in their questioning — or saying it outright, as some obnoxious pundits on social media have done — is classic revisionism. New Orleans desperately needs help. The finger-pointing? That nobody needs right now."
