Team —

I wanted to share with you that the House passed a third bill aimed at easing the economic burden of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Congress needed to act to provide American families with urgently needed relief, and I am proud that we reached a bipartisan agreement that was swiftly signed into law. We were able to secure:

  • $200 billion for healthcare systems
  • $150 billion for state and local governments
  • $260 billion in additional funding for unemployment insurance benefits
  • $377 billion for small businesses
  • $30 billion in emergency education funding

Additionally, this bill provides direct cash assistance of checks in the amount of $1,200 for those who make under $75,000 per year, plus $500 per child. We also included a provision that makes rent, mortgage, and utility costs for small businesses eligible for loan forgiveness.

I am also proud that Democrats in the House and Senate stood firm in their opposition to the $500 billion corporate slush fund that Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell tried to sneak into the bill. We are fighting for the people, not corporations!

I know that more will need to be done to ensure our community can rebound from the depths of this crisis, but I am grateful to share this news of progress with you today. Please continue to stay home and stay safe.

More soon,

— Yvette
