What is happening in Oregon is part of a larger national movement. Across the country, politicians -backed by well-funded special interest groups - are fueling disinformation to blame drug decriminalization for what is in reality a failure of their own leadership.
They are intent on throwing people in jail for drug use in an attempt to hide the visible public harm caused by their own policies. But we know that doesn’t make us safer or help people who are struggling with drugs.
Friend, the only way to reduce the impact of these crises is to hold the line on solutions we know work. Drug decriminalization paired with accessible, effective, and voluntary addiction and recovery services is a pathway to public health and public safety.
We knew this fight would be hard – making real progress always is. As you can see, there is wealthy opposition intent on carrying on the drug war.
But we must meet political resistance with resiliency. Please, if you can, make a special gift now to ensure we have the resiliency this fight requires.
