Logging is devouring the North American boreal forest.
In one just region of the forest, more than 35 million acres of trees have been chopped down -- an area the size of New York State.
All that's been left by the bulldozers and chainsaws is a patchwork of trees that's far less capable of offering shelter to the owls, lynx and caribou that call it home.[1] And to add insult to injury, this emerald expanse is being sacrificed to make toilet paper.[2]

The boreal forest should be teeming with life. Migratory birds fluttering from branch to branch, lynx padding silently across the forest floor, and trees slowly stretching skyward as they grow inch by inch.
But as logging picks up steam, that life fades away -- and so does the boreal's ability to slow climate change.
Each year, this forest captures as much climate-warming pollution as is emitted by 24 million cars.[3] As a critical carbon sink, it pulls greenhouse gases from our atmosphere and traps them within the forest. But as soon as a tree is logged, we lose its carbon-storing superpowers.

It's not too late for the boreal.
We can stop the logging and let the forest heal -- and to do that, we're calling on companies such as Costco and the makers of Charmin and Angel Soft to stop using wood fiber from the boreal forest to make toilet paper and other paper products.
But these companies won't change their ways unless their customers ask for it. We're rallying the public to raise a call to defend the boreal -- but we can't do it without the support of people like you.
