What began with the Dobbs decision keeps getting worse for Americans.
If you haven’t heard yet, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that embryos are children. The tragedy is that the legal questions this brings up have already caused the largest hospital in the state to pause IVF treatments – and set off a bipartisan panic across the country.
Now, those who have consistently opposed a woman’s right to choose are rushing in front of cameras and on social media trying to make us forget that this has been their goal all along and is the logical result of their argument that “personhood” begins at conception. Not only have many of them sponsored legislation that would undermine access to fertility treatment, but for the past two years their political supporters in the Senate have blocked Senator Duckworth’s bill to protect IVF access in our post-Roe world.
Here’s the deal, John: I like working with people from a range of backgrounds and viewpoints, but I can’t abide attacks on reproductive freedom. I want to reassure you: as long as I’m your Senator, you will have an unwavering voice for women’s reproductive rights nationwide.
During my time in the Senate, I’ve co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act to restore Roe protections, earned a 100% pro-choice voting score from Planned Parenthood, and voted against confirming anti-choice Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett to the Supreme Court. Now, I’m co-sponsoring the Access to Family Building Act to make the right to IVF technology national law.
You have my word I’ll keep defending the fundamental right to bodily autonomy for all women — in Maine, and beyond.
Sincerely,
Angus
P.S. I’m up for re-election this November. Any amount you can give, whether it’s $5 or $50, to help me win re-election and keep defending reproductive rights in the Senate is deeply appreciated. You can chip in here »
