Team, this is Adam Schiff.
I’ve been attacked, insulted and threatened by MAGA Republicans for my work to defend our democracy and hold Trump accountable – and so has my friend Harry Dunn.
Now, with just a few days until my primary election for the U.S. Senate race in California, I’m hoping you will split $10 or any amount between my campaign and Harry Dunn’s campaign. Now more than ever, we need strong defenders of our democracy in office.
Few days in our country’s history have made as big of an impact on our democracy as January 6, 2021.
I remember the January 6th attack on the Capitol like it was yesterday. Because I was there, on the House floor, when insurrectionists broke into the building and stormed the place.
The sounds of yelling. Of insurrectionists storming the Capitol, breaking doors and windows to get in. Of the whispers between members of Congress deciding how to protect ourselves.
The sight of Capitol police officers, like Harry, running toward danger, protecting everyone inside, regardless of their party or politics. Of my colleagues crouched on the floor, grabbing masks to protect themselves from tear gas. Of thousands of protestors assaulting Capitol Police and desecrating the halls of Congress.
You could sense the fear and the urgency. And the anger over what this mob was doing to overturn a free and fair election. And then, finally, once the fighting was over and we had fulfilled our duty to certify the election, the recognition that our democracy had survived, but barely.
Team, I will remember that day for a long time. But I will also remember what my GOP colleagues in Congress did.
After the rioting and the mayhem, a majority of Republican members still voted to overturn the election. Still. 147 members of Congress — many of whom are still in office today.
Insurrectionists, too. Albeit in suits and ties.
Since that day, we have seen nothing but continued threats to our Constitution and our democracy — by way of election deniers running for office, members of Congress continuing to support Donald Trump, and fellow Republican presidential candidates vowing to pardon him and try to erase history.
I worked to hold Trump and the MAGA leaders that enabled him accountable on the January 6 Select Committee of Congress. That’s where I worked with Harry, who was one of the Capitol police officers who defended the U.S. Capitol against MAGA insurrectionists and testified in front of our committee despite the trauma and threats that haunted him.
It’s going to take hard work by everyone to move this country forward and finally relegate Trump to the dustbin of history. But we will.
We need leaders in Congress who will defend our democracy. Protect our rule of law. Hold those who desecrate our institutions accountable.
That’s what Harry and I will do — but we need your help to make it to the House and the Senate. Will you please split a contribution of $10 to our campaigns today?
Thank you for all your support during this pivotal time in our history.
