Please pray that abortion up to birth is not decriminalised

Dear supporter,

Very soon, MPs will vote on whether to give pregnant women the unconditional freedom to kill their babies up to birth.

Pro-abortion MPs led by Labour’s Dame Diana Johnson are seeking to hijack the Government’s Criminal Justice Bill. Her amendment covers England and Wales.

Abortion is wrong – a clear breach of the Sixth Commandment. Obtaining one is already easy in the UK, but this crosses a new moral Rubicon and will inevitably lead to full decriminalisation of abortion. If you legalise abortion up to birth for women, it’s a short step to legalising it for doctors too.

A separate pro-life amendment has been tabled by Caroline Ansell MP to reduce the abortion limit to 22 weeks. The current 24-week limit was set in 1990. Advances in neonatal medicine mean very premature babies are now far more likely to survive.

Please pray:

  • that God would be merciful and spare England and Wales from the decriminalisation of abortion;
  • that the pro-life amendment is strongly supported.

‘Conversion therapy’

Separately, Conservative MP Alicia Kearns is seeking to amend the same Bill in the latest push to outlaw ‘conversion practices’.

Only yesterday, similar proposals from Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP were blocked in the House of Commons. A few weeks ago, Baroness Burt’s Bill was strongly opposed in the House of Lords. We give thanks to God for these successes. Thank you for your prayers.

Kearns’ amendment is yet another attempt to outlaw the preaching of repentance, prayer and pastoral advice that does not endorse LGBT theology. Loving parents who tell their children not to take dangerous puberty-blocking drugs could also be criminalised.

Please pray:

  • that the freedom to preach the Gospel will continue to be protected;
  • that the Kearns amendment does not pass;
  • that churches and parents would remain free to teach and uphold biblical truth on sexual ethics and gender.

We also ask for your prayers for us – that we might have wisdom to deal with the unprecedented number of deeply troubling issues at the present time.

Yours in Christ,
