It’s an honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives. On day one, I promised to represent you with transparency, authenticity, and integrity, and I’m committed to upholding that promise. Every week, I’ll be sending “Lori’s Letter” to keep you updated on my work. If you know someone who would like to receive my regular updates, please have them visit this link to sign up today! Continue reading this week’s edition to learn more about a new bill I introduced to support the protection of IVF, my message to Jewish students experiencing antisemitism, and much more. | SUPPORTING INNOVATION FOR OREGON’S SPECIALTY CROP INDUSTRY During my Farm Bill listening sessions, I heard from specialty crop growers about the importance of supporting innovation in the industry. I recently joined a bipartisan group of my colleagues to advocate for more R&D investments, which will help our farmers overcome labor challenges and compete in the global marketplace long-term. As we inch closer to the September 30 deadline, I want to assure you that negotiations on the Farm Bill are continuing between the Senate and the House Agriculture Committees. We are also continuing to engage in discussions with USDA to receive technical assistance. IVF treatment is proven to be a safe and effective health care option not only for these women, but also for many couples who want to have children. This week, I introduced a resolution to support the protection of IVF treatments – making my position clear that IVF needs to be accessible. A report published by the Columbia University Fertility Center found that over eight million babies have been born through IVF. And you should be proud of being brave. Shame on anyone who allows or enables systemic antisemitism to continue in academia. Watch my full remarks from yesterday’s Education and Workforce Committee hearing with students who have faced antisemitism at their schools: | SEEKING ANSWERS ON THE CONSEQUENCES OF BREACHING LOWER SNAKE RIVER DAMS Yesterday, several of my Pacific Northwest colleagues and I questioned Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Secretary Roger Millar on the department’s plan to mitigate the infrastructural and economic fallout of breaching the lower Snake River dams (LSRD). The letter comes after I raised concerns that breaching the dams could disrupt supply chains and clean energy production when I questioned Millar during a recent committee hearing. Breaching the LSRD would require the total number of truck drivers in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho to triple to meet the new shipping demand. However, the WSDOT hasn’t provided a detailed plan for addressing increased highway and rail traffic. That’s why I’ve made it a top priority to protect workers' rights and support union labor. Watch ⬇️ | TALKING BIPARTISANSHIP ON EYE ON NW POLITICS I sat down for an Eye on NW Politics interview last week. I enjoyed our conversation, including the importance of bipartisanship in Congress. In this divided country, in this divided Congress, the only way to get good policy done is to work across the aisle. | ONE MORE THING!
