We got word late last night that a Republican from Kentucky was trying to scuttle passage of the emergency funding bill.

So I got in my car at 4 o'clock this morning to drive to D.C. for the vote.

We voted to pass a $2 trillion relief package, despite that one member's efforts.

Then I got back in my car and drove 8 hours back.

Our families. Our state. Our country needed this.

While it's not the exact bill I would have written, it's a start.

We need more robust direct cash assistance: $4,000 for every American making under $100,000 a year - $2,000 for their kids; $2,000 for every American making over $100,000 a year - $1,000 for their kids. And yes, this includes everyone on social security and other assistance.

I could have done without the huge bailouts and giveaways to corporations that Republicans forced into this bill. But know that I will continue the fight to ensure resources go directly to our communities. Right into people's hands. Not getting lost on corporations.

And most importantly: our frontlines desperately need more resources. Ventilators. Equipment. They need more help. Period.

I promise I will continue to do everything I can to fight to get the resources and assistance we need.

Keep safe. Take care of your loved ones. Talk soon.

Joe
