Friend, I’m excited to share some good news:

An analysis in our 2023 California Environmental Scorecard reveals that the number of state legislators who take oil money dropped by 17% from 2022 to 2023.

While 62 out of 120 legislators (52%) taking oil money is still far too many, this is a serious improvement that deserves to be celebrated. An influx of oil-free new legislators last year helped put SB 253 — the biggest climate bill in the country — over the top after similar bills failed in previous years.

EnviroVoters has been on the frontlines in Sacramento defeating Big Oil, achieving transformative climate victories, and proving to legislators that they don’t need that dirty oil check. Corporate polluters are still trying to buy their influence in Sacramento. Oil and gas companies spent $34 MILLION lobbying state legislators in 2022.

And friend, a lot of that money went to Democrats who claim to care about fighting climate change.

We’ll never defeat Big Oil dollar for dollar, but we can with grit, determination, and a plan.

Our strategy of promoting climate solutions and holding climate delayers accountable is working. We got eight huge priority climate and democracy bills passed last year, including SB 253 and SB 261, which will usher in a new era of accountability and responsibility in the corporate world.

California can truly be a global leader in the climate fight by passing critical climate solutions like these, and EnviroVoters is helping to get it done. Will you help us keep it going with a gift today?
