Dear neighbor,

Since the extreme conservative Supreme Court overturned Americans’ right to seek abortion care, reproductive freedom has been under attack across the country. Most recently, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that embryos used in the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF) have the same rights as children. This decision is now preventing families in Alabama from making basic decisions about when to have children and jeopardizes the future of reproductive care in the state.

Not only do extreme MAGA Republicans want to ban abortion nationwide, most House Republicans are sponsors of a bill that would ban IVF across the country and criminalize reproductive health care. House Democrats are fighting to protect our fundamental freedoms. We will never give up on making sure that people, not politicians, are able to make their own decisions about their health.

I am pleased to cosponsor Representative Susan Wild’s (D-PA) Access to Family Building Act, which would ensure Americans have access to IVF and other treatments. Additionally, I am an original cosponsor of Representative Judy Chu’s (D-CA) Women’s Health Protection Act which would codify Roe v. Wade and prohibit government restriction of individuals’ access to abortion care. I remain strongly committed to protecting reproductive freedom and access to abortion nationwide.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK: At this week’s House Democratic Caucus leadership press conference, Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) and I were joined by Representative Terri Sewell (D-AL). Together, House Democrats are united to defend access to reproductive health care and family expansion tools. Check out the full press conference here.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It was great to join my colleague Representative Jay Obernolte (R-CA) this week to discuss the bipartisan House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence with Fox News’s Bret Baier. I’m honored to be the Co-Chair of the Task Force and look forward to working with Members on both sides of the aisle to establish responsible guardrails for AI technology.
