Well, folks, we avoided a government shutdown.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad. Shutdowns aren’t victimless crimes – they bring avoidable pain on federal workers and servicemembers and they obstruct countless key government services that Virginians rely on.

It’s frankly just ridiculous that House Republicans put us in this position again . It’s not the first time they’ve done it – this was our fourth short-term funding extension – and it won’t be the last. I think this constant flirtation with a government shutdown by the GOP serves as a stark reminder: We need more leaders in Congress who will work for the American people in good faith.
