Enforcing Indiana's Ban on Sanctuary Cities
|
A bill I co-authored that would enforce state law prohibiting sanctuary cities in Indiana passed the House of Representatives Tuesday, Feb. 27.
A "sanctuary city" is a term for a local unit of government that adopts a policy to deliberately and intentionally disregard federal law and not cooperate with federal immigration
authorities.
Senate Enrolled Act 181 would amend existing law to authorize the Indiana attorney general to file suit against any college, university or unit of local government in Indiana not enforcing current state laws banning sanctuary cities.
The bill now moves to the governor's desk for final consideration. To track bills on the governor's desk, click here. |

Increasing Campaign Transparency
|
In an age of artificial intelligence (AI), voters have a right to know what is real and what is not while watching campaign advertisements. House Bill 1133 would increase transparency for voters by requiring campaigns to label advertisements if they include fake images, audio or video made with AI.
The 2024 primary and general elections are quickly approaching. Eligible Hoosiers must register to vote before April 8.

Leading the Prayer and Pledge this Week
|
On Tuesday, I was honored to lead the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance before the official start of session.
I pride myself on being a man of faith and a public servant, and I am thankful to have had this opportunity. |

| Honoring a Colleague's Retirement from the Senate |

This week, the Senate heard Senate Resolution 15, which honors my longtime friend and colleague, State Sen. John Crane (R-Avon). We tackled our first session the same year, so we have worked closely together since 2017.
I have the utmost respect for the work Sen. Crane has done during his time in the Senate, and I'm sure he will continue to have success in his future endeavors.
He is one of the best and will truly be missed by this legislative body. |
