An update on the standards you fought for

Across the country, we're winning the fight to build a clean energy future. And our fight isn’t over.

Yesterday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shared that it will issue a new rule for existing gas plants, delaying this portion of the climate pollution standards for the power sector, which you might remember from our big campaign last year. EPA is expected to finalize the rules limiting pollution from coal and new gas plants by April. If they do, it will be a major, if incomplete, victory that would not have been possible without your efforts.

As you know, these rules represent a critical opportunity to cut climate pollution and clean up the power sector—one of the single largest drivers of the climate crisis. While this isn't the outcome we wanted, we always knew this would be a long, challenging fight. So we're in this until we've not only eliminated pollution from the power sector—but the entire economy. And we'll continue to count on your advocacy and support.

Last year, you helped us submit nearly 100,000 comments calling on EPA to regulate climate pollution from all coal and gas power plants, and this announcement takes us one step closer. But we still have more work to do to ensure the Biden administration cuts pollution from existing gas plants, as well, in the next round of rulemaking.

As we look at the road ahead and the two starkly different paths our country could take this year, we need your help, more than ever, to stand up for a just, healthy, and livable future. Thank you for all you've done to get us here and we look forward to continuing the work together.
