** Women and Black people overrepresented in
HIV-criminal arrests in Ohio
------------------------------------------------------------
On Wednesday, in honor of HIV Is Not a Crime Awareness Day, the Williams Institute released a new report examining the history of HIV criminalization in Ohio and key trends in the enforcement of the state’s HIV-related criminal laws between 2000 and 2022. Results show that Ohio's laws are disproportionately enforced based on gender and race, with women and Black people the most affected.
In addition, the enforcement of HIV crimes in Ohio is geographically concentrated. Four counties—Cuyahoga, Franklin, Montgomery, and Summit—account for over two-thirds (68%) of all alleged HIV-related criminal incidents. These four counties are home to just over half (53%) of all PLWH in Ohio.

Diana Feliz Oliva made history by being the first openly transgender person hired by Gilead in its 30-year history. She has extensive experience in building relationships and coalitions among various stakeholders, with a special emphasis on advocating for and supporting the transgender community. For over 15 years, Diana has worked with HIV-positive communities, including women, transgender individuals, sex workers, people experiencing mental illness and substance use, unhoused individuals, incarcerated adults, youth, elderly people, people of color, and undocumented individuals. She has become an effective social advocate and role model, giving voice and visibility to transgender communities and the many, overlapping communities that her life has touched.

The Williams Institute is looking for an experienced scholar who specializes in LGBTQIA+ people and issues to join our team as a Scholar of Public Policy. The Scholar will be responsible for conducting original research, supervising and supporting early career staff, and engaging with a variety of stakeholders.
