Jack,

Today is National Horse Protection Day!!!

[link removed] [[link removed]]

Each year, March 1st is recognized as National Horse Protection Day, a day meant to bring awareness to the plight of horses across the United States and beyond – including wild horses.

Wild horses embody the untamed beauty of America’s landscapes, but they face unprecedented threats to their freedom and safety thanks to federal mismanagement, inhumane Bureau of Land Management (BLM) helicopter roundups, and rapid habitat loss. That’s why in honor of National Horse Protection Day, we’re mobilizing our grassroots coalition for a Day of Action in support of two key legislative initiatives that will #HaltTheHelicopters and advance protections for wild horses! TAKE ACTION FOR WILD HORSES [[link removed]]

First, the Wild Horse & Burro Protection Act of 2023-2024 (H.R. 3656) – a landmark piece of legislation introduced by Nevada’s US Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV), which would ban the cruel use of helicopters in federal roundups, and enable better in-the-wild conservation solutions. Helicopter roundups traumatize wild horses and burros. Far too many of these innocent animals are injured or even killed as a result of this cruel practice.

Passing this bill, which currently has 19 cosponsors in the House of Representatives, would represent a significant step forward toward humane, in-the-wild conservation and the preservation of our nation’s wild horse and burro populations.

However, our mission doesn’t stop there. We are also advocating for critical language to be added to Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Appropriations legislation that will redirect funds away from harmful helicopter roundups and toward the implementation of humane fertility control programs. By focusing on these non-invasive techniques, we can ensure the sustainable management of wild horse and burro herds while preserving their freedom and natural behaviors.

Jack, we know there ARE science-backed, humane, cost-effective solutions to wild horse and burro conservation. And we need your help telling Congress that it is time to enact them.

Please sign on to this letter urging your member of Congress to cosponsor the Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act of 2023-2024, and to support adding language to the FY2025 Appropriations bill that redirects funds away from roundups toward humane fertility control so that we end cruel helicopter roundups once and for all! TAKE ACTION FOR WILD HORSES [[link removed]]

Today, and every day, we are working to revolutionize wild horse and burro protection across the American West. We’re setting the conservation standard by expanding protected natural habitats in places like Nevada’s picturesque Carson Valley, and through implementing the world’s leading wild horse fertility control program on Nevada’s Virginia Range, proving a new model for wild horse protection is possible.

That’s why AWHC is much more than a campaign. AWHC is American Wild Horse Conservation.

Please, join us in advancing the cause of wild horse conservation by taking action for our wild herds today. Together, we can send a powerful message to Congress about the importance of protecting these iconic animals. [[link removed]]

Thank you,
