Team, what type of local activism are you most passionate about?

That’s what I’m curious to hear as we kick off the new month.

Our Groundwork grantees cover a wide range of issues, ranging from pursuing environmental justice, to increasing voter turnout, to demanding accountability from our elected officials.

One grantee I’m feeling extra passionate about right now is Freedom Oklahoma — an organization dedicated to building an Oklahoma where all 2SLGBTQ+ people have the safety to thrive.

Following the death of Nex Benedict, a 2STGNC+ teenager who was brutally assaulted at school, Freedom Oklahoma called for the removal of their State Superintendent, someone who has pushed for hate-fueled policies that dehumanize and target trans and non-binary youth.

This is a clear example of turning energy into action — channeling the emotions following Nex’s wrongful death to rally for tangible, positive change.

Whether it be advocating for equality, abortion access, or worker’s rights, I want to hear it from you: What kind of local activism gets you fired up?
