The latest on what's happening with right-of-center women   Weekly Wrap March 1, 2024   This Week's Highlights   Monday An estimated 14,000 service members were discharged under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” prior to the law’s repeal in 2011. More than 90% of them still have discharge statuses that adversely impact their ability to find work or housing, and many have been denied financial and mental health benefits. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) introduced the Recover Pride in Service Act to “provide an opportunity for those discharged for no reason other than sexual orientation to receive their deserved benefits and amend their military record to reflect their noble service.” Tuesday Rep. Young Kim (CA-40) highlighted how detrimental President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan has been for Afghan women and girls. Kim pressed the issue during a recent exchange with Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, the former Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation at the State Department: “Since the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan under the Biden administration, all heartfelt progress on basic freedoms and rights for Afghan women have vanished.” Wednesday Rep. Ashley Hinson (IA-02) shared a heartbreaking story of a 2-year-old who was murdered by an illegal immigrant in Washington, DC. Since he took office, President Biden has only exacerbated the crisis at the border and communities all over the country are having to suffer the consequences. Thursday House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) will deliver the Republican response to President Biden's State of the Union address next Thursday, March 7.
