Dear friends of IDP,

I am incredibly glad to share the news, on behalf of IDP and our Advisory Board, that Marie Mark has officially stepped into the role of Executive Director starting February 9.

Marie is an attorney with nearly two decades of experience, including eight years at IDP, serving immigrants targeted by the criminal legal system. In her time at IDP thus far, she has overseen the creation of the Padilla Support Center, which advises hundreds of public defenders each year, and managed the Hotline through significant growth, including when the Trump administration came into power and its hostile policies and rhetoric triggered devastating panic from community members. Marie also led IDP’s advocacy work to pass marijuana legalization in New York that included special pathways for immigrants to vacate marijuana convictions. I appreciate that Marie keeps the needs of immigrant communities primary. I have had the honor to work alongside her and watch how she balances the dual necessities of being a practical, grounded client-centered attorney and also pushing for radical new legal strategies and immigration policies.

I am also thrilled that, as we look to the future of IDP’s growth and the necessary systems change that immigrants need, Marie will be the lead strategist to envision, shape, and guide the next major chapter of the organization. Marie understands IDP’s multi-pronged approach, combining support for community members and their attorneys navigating a cruel system with coalition building and creative legal strategies that unlock significant change. Her focus is clearly on the urgent need to protect immigrants and their families by ending the current era of mass immigrant detention and deportation.
