Dear Neighbors,

On Thursday, Democrats began their push to further restrict the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding Minnesotans with hearings on two bills in the House Public Safety Committee.

Last year, Democrats in full control of the Capitol, enacted ?universal? background checks and red flag confiscation orders. Now, they are back looking to further compromise our Second Amendment rights with?House File 601 [ [link removed] ]?which establishes an arbitrary deadline for reporting lost and stolen firearms; and?House File 4300 [ [link removed] ], which makes changes to how firearms must be stored in the home.

It is especially disrespectful that Democrats are using the Burnsville tragedy to continue their efforts to chip away at the 2nd Amendment. As more information has been revealed regarding the circumstances surrounding this tragedy, none of these proposals would have done a thing to prevent this individual from carrying out these heinous acts.

Instead of continuing to invent new ways that further burden law-abiding gun owners, Democrats should join us in our efforts to hold criminals responsible for their actions and enforce the many gun laws already on the books.

As for myself, I will continue to stand strong for the 2nd Amendment and protect your right to defend yourself and your family.

*February Budget Forecast*

On Thursday, state economists released the annual February budget forecast. As was the case in December?s update, officials are once again projecting a looming deficit beginning in next budget cycle.

The Democrat deficit should not be surprising when you consider Governor Walz along with DFL majorities in the House and Senate spent last year?s $17.5 billion budget surplus, raised taxes by $10 billion, and grew overall government spending by 40%.

The trajectory that Democrats have set us on is unsustainable and family budgets are paying the price because of it.

You deserve better and balance is badly needed in St. Paul to set us on the right course for the future.

*School Resource Officers Update*

Good news to report as there has been an agreement reached on a fix to the School Resource Officer (SRO) issue between law enforcement, Democrats, and Republicans.

Remember, a change in state law last year resulted in dozens of school districts removing SROs from their middle and high schools.

I expect the bill providing this fix to be on the House Floor for a vote this coming week and look forward to seeing it signed into law by Governor Walz in the very near future.
