Mitch McConnell might go down in history as the Senate's greatest obstructionist. He blocked Obama's judicial nominees and Merrick Garland, his Supreme Court pick, and when Obama told him about Russian election interference, Mitch refused to condemn the Russians because he wanted to help Trump instead.
Now, Mitch is encouraging older Republican judges to retire so he can replace each of them with a "worthy successor," packing the judiciary for years to come. He kept the Senate closed for a long weekend earlier this month so he could focus on packing the courts right when Americans needed their leaders the most. Mitch also refused to bring crucial election security measures to a vote, the same way he refused to allow witnesses in Trump's impeachment trial or allow for debates on over 300 bipartisan bills passed by House Democrats.
If Mitch wins re-election and the Republicans keep control of the Senate, he will continue to play obstructionist to a Democratic president or, even worse, enable Trump's worst policies for four more years.
Amy McGrath will be our champion to defeat Mitch this November. McGrath knows what it means to fight hard: she was the first woman to fly combat missions for the Marine Corps. Amy's victory would rid the Senate of its chief obstructionist and send a progressive woman to Capitol Hill. Amy will fight for affordable healthcare and against economic inequality by supporting more opportunities for working and middle-class Americans.
But it won't be easy. Mitch is one of the most powerful men in Congress, and he spent $30 million on his last race. Let's not forget all Mitch has delivered for the GOP: tax cuts for the rich and corporations and a conservative majority on the Supreme Court, just to name a few. Mitch already has $11 million on hand (the largest chunk comes from Wall Street) and is attacking Amy for supporting universal healthcare and a woman's right to choose.
POLITICO reported this week that Mitch is funneling $10.8 million from his Senate super PAC into his own race -- even more than his super PAC is spending in Arizona or Maine, two Senate races The Cook Political Report ranks as "toss-ups." One Mitch ally says this spending "demonstrates we intend to hold the line." It's clear that Mitch and Co. know exactly where "the line" they're trying to hold is most vulnerable.
When Democrats Turn Out is supporting Amy because we need leaders who believe that Congress should actually work for the American people. We know Republicans will fully utilize their piles of dark money and Trump campaign funds to defeat Amy and keep Mitch as Senate leader, so we need your support. If you believe in protecting our democracy, we need your donation NOW. Can you help us turn out the vote and get Mitch out of the Senate by donating to us and Amy McGrath today?
