John,
Today, Congress passed a $2 trillion COVID-19 relief package which was then quickly signed into law.
We wanted to take a moment to let you know what we think this legislation means for working families — the good and the bad — and where we go from here.
Please read our full response below. Then RSVP to join us Sunday at 3:30pm ET/12:30pm PT for our digital rally with special guests Stacey Abrams, Rev. Dr. William Barber II, and more as we keep up the fight to put people first in the response to this pandemic.

Despite some hard-won gains by Democratic lawmakers, the legislation Congress passed today still included a big Trump-McConnell wet kiss to corporations in the form of a half-trillion-dollar corporate slush fund.
It also did not go far enough to provide relief for individuals and families who have always been one financial crisis away from ruin. And it fell criminally short of providing the funding necessary to protect the integrity of our voting process.
But thanks to the leadership of progressives in the Senate like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the bill did end up providing some measures of accountability for the corporate bailout slush fund. And it included a much-needed expansion of unemployment benefits that Sen. Bernie Sanders fought tooth and nail to protect — and which Republican Senators had worked furiously to undermine.
The direct aid in this bill coming to some of our most vulnerable workers and families is a start, but there are no provisions for paid sick and family leave. And the bill also intentionally discarded undocumented workers who have contributed to our economy and are now left hanging in a time of need.
In a matter of days, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the massive inequality in our country and the unforgivable flaws in our healthcare system and social safety nets. Americans are learning more than ever how each and every one of our communities is only as safe as the most vulnerable person within them.
We still need a real bailout for people, not big corporations.
That's why we will continue to press for measures to strengthen accountability in any corporate bailouts. It's why we will keep calling on Trump to use the Defense Production Act and make corporate America work for our health, instead of forcing workers to risk their health to line the pockets of the wealthy.
And it's why we will keep the pressure on Congress to think big and look at expansive, transformational policies that help us get through this pandemic and ensure people thrive when it's over: Universal health care, a down payment on a regenerative economy through massive investment in infrastructure and climate resilience, and more resources to establish a robust, universal vote by mail program.
We still need a #PeoplesBailout to ensure our society and democracy work for everyone — and that nobody is left behind.
