Today we published a full-page advert in Jeremy Hunt’s local newspaper 🗞️ demanding he #TaxTheBanks in next week’s budget.

Since it’s likely to be his last one before a general election, it’s our last chance to win a tax on banks from this government.

Imagine Jeremy Hunt’s face John, when he opens his local paper to see our ad staring right back at him.

We chose his local paper, The Surrey Advertiser, because this weekend is the Chancellor’s last chance to travel back to his constituency before he delivers the Spring Budget to Parliament on Wednesday. Hunt’s got some big decisions in front of him and we need to show him people are watching

We’re going to be delivering the petition to Number 11 Downing Street on Tuesday afternoon and every extra name we can add before then will add to the pressure.

Please John, will you join over 7,000 people and add your name before Tuesday? It takes less than 60 seconds.

NatWest, Lloyds, Barclays, and HSBC made £44 billion in pre-tax profits last year alone. [1] A windfall tax would help claw billions back to help fund schools, hospitals and support those suffering most from the cost of living crisis. The big banks may have deep pockets to fork out on professional lobbyists, but we’ve got something more meaningful: a people-powered movement.

Positive Money supporters are the heart of our movement, and they’re the reason we win. From a greener mandate for the Bank of England back in 2021, to new powers to protect access to cash announced by the government just last year, when enough of us come together, the people in power listen. [2]

Now we need as many people as possible to come together, and sign the petition before it’s too late.

Positive Money relies on donations from generous individuals like you to carry out our research, education work and campaign for a fairer money and banking system.
Please will you make a secure donation now so together we can win sooner?
