40 years ago, Born Free was founded to challenge the global, multi-billion-pound captivity industry. We pledged to be a voice for captive animals and this mission remains at our heart.

• Dolphins in Europe – more than 300 dolphins and whales are held in 30+ dolphinaria

Elephants don’t belong behind bars. Dolphins don’t belong in concrete tanks. Yet we condemn these far-ranging, family animals to lead miserable, unnatural and often shortened lives – for our grotesque, old-fashioned ‘entertainment’.
