Friends, Yesterday the death toll, from the Coronavirus in NYC, rose to 365. Today, that number is going to increase, and tomorrow and the next day, and the day after that. Social distancing and shelter in place orders take time to work, but as they do, hospitals are being overrun and people are struggling to survive.

Southeast Queens, the majority of New York’s 5th Congressional district, is the hardest hit area of the city.  *New York’s 5th Congressional district outlined in blue. My district has the highest number of confirmed cases in the city* The people of NY-5 (my district) don’t care about the Dow Jones, or bailing out the hospitality industry. In my commu- nity a $1,200 or $2,400 (for joint tax filers) check will not even cover one months rent, let alone feed a family. My neighbors need hand soap, paper towels, canned food, water, gloves and hygiene products, not corporate bailouts.  That is why yesterday, we announced our Community Care Outreach program to supply vulnerable folks in our commu nity with the supplies they need to survive.

*Only if you live near a drop location, and have the ability to safely do so Today, as the situation worsens, the need for this program has become critical. That is why we have added new drop locations and scheduled additional, constituent outreach specific phone banks.
Helping the people of Southeast Queens and Nassau County survive this crisis has become the central focus of our cam paign. It is the only thing worth doing right now. I have mobilized my entire staff to focus only on helping our community and not on all the other aspects of campaigning for Congress. People are dying here in the community I love, and our leaders in Congress (my opponent included) are completely absent...but we aren’t!  Right now, my community needs me to be a leader, not just a candidate for Congress. That is why everything else is second to helping get supplies into the hands of people whoare struggling.  If you live in Southeast Queens or Nassau Country and need assistance, resources or supplies please contact the campaign at [email protected]. We are here for you! Please stay safe as we get through this together, Shaniyat Chowdhury
As our campaign focuses on our Community Care Outreach program and other digital efforts, our fundraising is hurting. At this time, fundraising is not a priority for the team, but in order to continue helping constituents, we need the resources to do so. If you have the means and want to help out, please give whatever you can to support us.
