Friend,
Joe Biden’s new electric vehicle mandates are a death sentence. Allow me to explain:
Biden wants to take a page out of Gavin Newsom’s playbook and make it so that TWO-THIRDS of all vehicles sold in the US by 2032 must be battery-powered.
But we’ve seen how well that’s been working out for California:
California’s gas is the second most expensive in the COUNTRY, with the average regular gas costing consumers $4.59 per gallon. Meanwhile, my home state of Florida is almost $1.50 cheaper per gallon than California, at $3.17 per gallon.
That means it costs almost $57 to fill up a 2024 HONDA CIVIC in California with standard gas.
In Florida, that same exact car costs under $40 to fill up.
California lawmakers are more focused on building electric car infrastructure (like charging stations, etc.) rather than fixing the already crumbling infrastructure of their highways, schools, and places of business.
I have nothing against Americans who want to drive electric cars. For some people, it makes perfect sense.
But for many others, being forced to drive an electric vehicle would make their daily lives MUCH harder.
And Biden shouldn’t be taking away our choice as Americans to choose between gas-powered cars and electric cars.
I didn’t even mention the fact that by requiring TWO-THIRDS of new vehicles sold to be electric vehicles, we’re SUPPORTING our enemies in China and Afghanistan.
They’ve got the raw materials that are necessary to manufacture these batteries.
But Friend, Biden’s mandate isn’t just unrealistic. It’s downright tyrannical.
America is defined by our freedom to worship the God we believe in, speak our minds, and CHOOSE THE KIND OF CAR WE WANT TO DRIVE!
And Biden’s mandate goes directly against that.
Just picture yourself in this instance for a moment:
Imagine you live somewhere in rural America, with nothing around for MILES.
There are no electric vehicle charging stations within an hour of your house.
Let’s say you’re driving home and you start to run out of battery. What are you supposed to do?
The reality is that there are still places in the U.S. where you can go hundreds of miles without seeing a SINGLE charging station; even in more densely populated states.
Thousands have already called on Biden to pull back on these mandates, so I know I’m not alone in my sentiment here.
All I know is this: I will do everything in my power to make sure these EV mandates do not pass.
Thank you,
Rep. Vern Buchanan
