March is Women's History Month!

As we live in a time when women’s, trans, and reproductive rights are being threatened nationwide and globally, it is all the more important to care for and celebrate the strong women in our lives and our communities. Our mothers, siblings, friends, carers, advocates, and organizers nurture homes, families, and entire communities while breaking through barriers created by systemic inequalities at the same time. ** Update on Opportunity for All

On Thursday, January 25, the University of California Regents voted 10-6 against Opportunity for All, a policy that would have allowed undocumented students enrolled in UC campuses to work in their university. Despite this disheartening news, students across all UCs continue to advocate for work opportunities for undocumented students. ** Introducing Immigrants Rising’s new Mental Health Senior Manager

We are excited to announce Mayra Barragan-O'Brien ([link removed]) , founder of UndocuMental Health ([link removed]) and long-time partner of Immigrants Rising, as Immigrants Rising’s new Mental Health Senior Manager! As the Mental Health Senior Manager, Mayra will oversee our Mental Health Career Program ([link removed]) , Mental Health Connector ([link removed]) , and Wellness Support Groups ([link removed]) , which serve over 600 undocumented immigrants annually. The Systemwide AB 540 FAQ ([link removed]) is updated and live! This FAQ, signed on by the University of California and California Community Colleges, aims to align and streamline the implementation and processes of AB 540 across California public higher education institutions and individual campuses. ** The Impact of the New FAFSA on Mixed Status Immigrant Families
------------------------------------------------------------

This webinar ([link removed]) , co-hosted with the Presidents’ Alliance and the National College Attainment Network, highlights the impact and challenges of the new FAFSA on mixed status immigrant families. While the Department of Education set a temporary process ([link removed]) to allow students to meet priority state and institutional aid deadlines, a permanent solution is yet to be made. Read this comment ([link removed]) by ImmSchools and National Immigration Law Center, co-signed by Immigrants Rising and other organizations, directed to the Federal Student Aid and Department of Education to address this issue expeditiously.
