Here’s the latest.
* In a win for voters, a federal court struck down ([link removed]) provisions of Arizona voter suppression laws that instituted strict proof of citizenship requirements for voting, ruling that the policies violate federal law.
* U.S. Senate Democrats reintroduced ([link removed]) the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which has been weakened by the U.S. Supreme Court over the years.
* An Illinois judge removed ([link removed]) former President Donald Trump from the state's primary ballot, becoming the third state to rule the former president ineligible under the 14th Amendment due to his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection. The ruling is paused pending the Supreme Court's decision in Trump's Colorado ballot disqualification case.
* Arizona Senate Republicans passed ([link removed]) a bill to prohibit excluding any candidate from the ballot due to violating the 14th Amendment's "insurrection ban," in a move to try and prevent Trump from being removed from the state's ballot.
* Civil rights groups filed ([link removed]) their initial brief in the Florida Supreme Court over the state's congressional districts, maintaining their argument that the map — created by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) — diminishes Black voting power and must be redrawn.
