Hi John!
As February comes to a close, I want to share my thoughts on the unique intersection of Valentine’s Day and Black History Month. This time has allowed me to more deeply understand the concept of Black love — an act that goes way beyond romantic relationships. It encompasses the strength of familial bonds, friendships, self-love, and a commitment to community and our rich culture. Throughout history, Black love has been a guiding light, offering resilience and perseverance to those who’ve fought and continue to fight against the suppression of our collective power. And by recognizing love's power, we have the ability to foster inclusivity and positive change.
As we inch closer to the upcoming presidential election, let the stories of those who came before us provide us with the type of strength and love that helps move the needle forward to a more just democracy that represents us all. Now, let’s take a look at some of the things that have brought me joy throughout February:
✅ The amazing When We All Vote volunteers I chatted with this month!
✅ Season two of the Netflix series ‘High on the Hog.’
✅ The song ‘Someday’ by Elmiene has been on repeat all month🎵
✅ The Power of the Black Vote ✊🏾
✅ Usher’s Halftime performance with a surprise pop-up from When We All Vote Co-Chair H.E.R.
