Palestinian leadership and dangerous illusions breed endless war

In purely military terms, Israel is winning its war against Hamas. Its forces have driven Hamas fighters out of much of north and central Gaza, killing at least 10,000 while losing fewer than 300 Israeli troops. But the war is taking a horrendous toll on civilians. It has killed more than 29,000 Palestinians, wounded nearly 70,000 and reduced much of northern Gaza to rubble. These figures come from Hamas-controlled public health officials and do not distinguish between civilians and combatants.

Jonathan Rivas
Communications and Political Affairs Fellow
Jonathan Rivas is a senior at the University of California, Irvine studying Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations. Jonathan has also served as a Learning Assistant, assisting professors in teaching students in International Relations undergraduate courses at his university. His previous research includes the analysis of both drivers of migration within the Western Hemisphere and the impacts of foreign aid development within the Northern Triangle. Prior to joining PPI, he worked and interned in several law firms within San Bernardino County, CA. Outside of work and studies, Jonathan works as a wedding and event photographer.
