February is Black History Month and I want to celebrate with you by sharing stories of outstanding community leaders in the Inland Empire. Retired Marine Sgt. Major Gregory Coker sat down to talk about his service to our country and the history of Black servicemembers and veterans. Thank you, Sgt. Major Coker, for your time and dedicated service. Watch his full interview here | I have also spotlighted Black leaders in Riverside County on social media to honor them and their service to our community. Michael Moore has over 42 years of dedicated public service -- from starting as a firefighter in 1982 to becoming the first African American Fire Chief of the City of Riverside Fire Department in 2014. His commitment to specialized training, strategic planning, and fostering a culture of family, friendliness, and fitness within the Riverside City Fire Department sets a shining example for us all. Since 2005, Marissa has dedicated herself to our community, first as a teacher and now leading with passion and commitment. A proud graduate of Oakwood University, Marissa is shaping a future where our Panthers thrive academically and personally. With 20 years as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer, a decade as a district representative for State Senator Richard Roth here in Southern California, and with an unyielding commitment to our community, Altie's dedication is unparalleled. From pivotal military operations to shaping the next generation as a Junior ROTC Instructor, Altie Holcomb's legacy is one of resilience, dedication, and tireless service. Black history is a part of our shared history, and it is a privilege to share the stories of these dedicated individuals.
