Today is our last chance to hit our goal, John:
At 11:59 p.m. tonight, we close out the 2024 Membership Drive. And unfortunately, we're still 112 members short of hitting our goal of 1,000 new members.
In a moment I will explain why your support for 350.org is so critically important — especially today — but if you are ready to renew your membership right now, please use this link to do so:
Things are looking bleak for our climate:
Just a few days ago the Guardian reported that the Atlantic Ocean is nearing a devastating tipping point.
The vast system of ocean currents that controls the circulation of the Atlantic Ocean is being eroded by climate-induced melt-off from Arctic glaciers and ice sheets, and is in its weakest state in more than a millennium. If it collapses, the consequences will be severe:
"Sea levels in the Atlantic would rise by a meter in some regions, inundating many coastal cities. The wet and dry seasons in the Amazon would flip, potentially pushing the already weakened rainforest past its own tipping point. Temperatures around the world would fluctuate far more erratically. [...] The changes would hit 10 times faster than now, making adaptation almost impossible."1
Decades of unchecked exploitation and extraction from our planet have led to a terrible new reality for everyday people like us. But it's not too late to change course.
John: 2024 is our best chance to stop the fossil fuel industry that has put our planet on a terrifying course of destruction and disaster, and invest in a better future. Are you ready to fight back?
Our movement is up against a lot this year. But we have won the fights that no one thought were possible because we have had supporters like you in our corner.
There is no denying that the fight for our planet will be the fight of our lifetimes. But there is no one else I'd rather be in this fight with other than you, and our global climate movement. Thank you so, so much for renewing your support today.
In solidarity,
May Boeve
