** Despite material evidence to the contrary, Secretary Haaland made a statement saying her attacks on American energy were impartial. Just another day in the office from Team Biden.

------------------------------------------------------------
The Federalist ([link removed]) (2/26/24) reports: "Interior Secretary Deb Haaland unilaterally dismissed ethics concerns over her decision on an oil and gas moratorium in New Mexico. In August, Protect the Public’s Trust (PPT), a non-profit government watchdog, filed a complaint related to Haaland’s order to choke off hundreds of thousands of acres in New Mexico from energy development. 'In June 2, 2023, Secretary Haaland withdrew public lands from future fuel leases within the Greater Chaco area,' the complaint read. 'Somah Haaland, Secretary Haaland’s child, is a prominent member of an activist organization that lobbied federal officials seeking to restrict oil and gas leasing in the area.' Somah Haaland began working for the Pueblo Action Alliance (PAA) as a media organizer in 2020, a far-left indigenous activist group in New Mexico. The 20-year moratorium on new leases within a 10-mile radius
of New Mexico’s Chaco Cultural National Historical Park was a longtime goal of the organization. In 2021, the PAA released a video opposing energy development in the region narrated by Somah featuring her mother, who turned a signature wish list item into reality as secretary of the Interior. 'I have carefully assessed whether my participation would raise a question regarding my impartiality and performing my official duties,' Haaland told federal ethics authorities...In other words, Haaland merely issued a statement with no justification. The secretary just asserted she was impartial despite participation in the activist work with her daughter to shut down oil and gas opportunities in the Greater Chaco area. The decision came to the detriment of the Navajo Nation, which voted to reject the administration’s plans to withdraw 351,000 acres from consideration for oil and gas leases."

** "Michigan’s hope to join the 100% clean energy club, with Nirvana scheduled to begin in 2040, ignores realities of the state’s natural environment."

============================================================

There is a much simpler way out of this problem. Just stop with all the net zero nonsense. But that would, of course, require a bunch of know it all politicians and bureaucrats to admit they screwed up.

(2/27/24) reports: "The push to find alternatives to China-based sources of silicon has gathered force in recent months both in America and in the European Union (EU). Widespread concern about the humanitarian and geopolitical implications of doing business with Chinese state-controlled exporters has fueled a backlash and a campaign to re-shore solar panel production...The EU is desperate for ways to curb its heavy dependence on Chinese silicon imports for use in the construction of solar panels that figure prominently in its vision of a green energy future. However, Western nations still face a severe disadvantage when it comes to competing with China—namely, the cost of energy. 'It requires very high heat to produce the solar panels, to make the polycrystal and silicon. It’s almost the same process as making semiconductors. You need really high heat to form the silicon during the process, and that’s where China, with cheap energy, can drive down the costs. They have economies of scale,'
Alexander Stevens, manager of policy and communications at the Washington-based Institute for Energy Research, told The Epoch Times. Hence, the energy sectors of Western nations stand at a crossroads, with significant domestic capability offset by crippling regulations and a lack of competitiveness in terms of affordable energy. Energy costs account for roughly 40 percent of the cost of solar panels. 'The technological progress in this field is very slow. The easy innovations have been sussed out, and the substantive improvements in technology are harder and harder won,' Mr. Stevens said."

It was a good run.

(2/28/24) reports: "The Biden administration launched a $3 billion program Wednesday to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions at U.S. ports, in a move that could particularly benefit low-income communities living near industrialized harbors. Funded by the Inflation Reduction Act, the program will support zero-emissions vessels, electric charging stations and other technologies at coastal and inland ports as well as at rail and truck hubs known as “dry ports.” The money is in the form of competitive grants for which port authorities, state agencies and other entities can apply. While the vast majority of funds will advance carbon-free technologies, a small portion will also support the creation of emissions inventories and other tools to monitor air pollution, EPA said. 'Our nation’s ports are among the busiest in the world, helping us to create good jobs here in America, move goods, and grow our economy,' EPA Administrator Michael Regan said in a statement. 'Today’s historic
funding announcement reflects President Biden’s vision of growing our economy while ensuring America leads in creating globally competitive solutions of the future.'"
