Dear John, Did you know that unborn babies can feel pain at just 15 weeks gestation or even earlier? That’s what researchers concluded in a comprehensive review of the available neuroscience. Many states now limit abortions at 15 weeks or before. Unfortunately, Oregon isn’t one of them. In fact, Oregon is among only a handful of states that allow abortion up to the moment of birth. Abortions can be performed in Oregon at any stage of pregnancy, for any reason, even when the developing human being can feel pain. Abortions at 15 weeks and later use brutal methods to physically dismember the unborn baby. This legislative session, Oregon Right to Life put forward SB 1536: Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, calling for legal protections for vulnerable unborn humans who are capable of feeling pain.
