1) Roll Tide Roll: Alabama Moving Forward with School Choice
Here’s a headline that made our day and week:

[link removed]
[link removed]
The legislation would dramatically expand school choice options and would allow public education dollars to follow children into private school, homeschooling, and help pay other educational costs. It passed by a margin of 69-34. Pitifully, ALL 28 Democrats voted no even though low-income and minorities are by far the biggest beneficiaries of school choice. The bill PRIORITIZES low-income families and kids with disabilities.

The governor says she will sign the bill if it gets through the Senate.

It looks like Alabama may get this done before Georgia – where a similar bill is stalled. As one of our Georgia activists and a lifelong Bulldog moaned: “Alabama beats Georgia again.”

2) Texas and Florida's Dangerous Assault on Free Speech
On Monday, Supreme Court justices heard oral arguments in a major case on the constitutionality of laws in Texas and Florida that are designed to prohibit social media platforms from "silencing conservatives."

There’s no doubt that the big tech firms in Silicon Valley have an inglorious history of censoring conservative viewpoints. But these firms — not the government — built these platforms.

As such, they are the ones who should decide the content of what is on their own social media sites – not the politicians or bureaucrats.

Should the government be telling the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times what op-eds they must print? Should federal regulators tell the HOTLINE that we need to publish more liberal content? God forbid.

The freedom of speech — one of our most precious rights — exclusively limits GOVERNMENT restrictions on speech, not private companies. Remember, the Constitution says “CONGRESS shall make no law” limiting speech.

Some conservatives retort that Google, Facebook, and other social media platforms are so big and profitable that they should be regulated as “common carrier” public utilities. Do we really want federal regulators refereeing what can and can’t be said on social media? This is a good way to make billions of dollars for trial lawyers and jeopardize our multi-trillion-dollar tech leadership in the world.

If you don’t like a social network’s bias against conservatives, the best form of retaliation is don't use it. Turn it off. There are scores of alternatives to Google and Facebook. Turn on Truth Social. Go to Rumble.

A Wall Street Journal editorial asks precisely the right questions here:

"Do Florida and Texas want Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan dictating what can and can’t be said online? Could California pass a law requiring companies to remove posts that criticize male transgender participation in women’s sports?"

"The solution to business censorship of conservatives,” notes the Journal editorial, "isn’t government censorship of business." Amen.

3) Democratic Cities Ready to Renounce Sanctuary Status?
Over the last 30 years, over 560 cities and counties have declared themselves “sanctuary cities” where cooperation with the federal government in enforcing immigration law is banned. But now the bills are coming due and liberal mayors are reconsidering the open-door policy.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams says his city’s sanctuary law must be changed. He wants migrants suspected of major crimes turned over to federal immigration officials. Asked about due process for anyone accused of a crime, the mayor shot back, “They didn’t give due process to the person that they shot or punched or killed.”

Aurora, Colorado, the state’s third largest city, elected a conservative city council last November over crime and immigration issues. This week, the city council voted 7 to 3 for a resolution that the city lacks “the financial capacity to fund new services related to this [migrant] crisis” and demands other cities stop transporting migrants and the homeless to Aurora.

Even hard-left Montgomery County, Maryland said they will start cooperating with ICE in its apprehensions.

5) And Hollywood Will Now Saturate the Big Screen with Climate Change Propaganda
The folks behind next month’s Oscar Awards (yawn!) have organized five annual environmental conferences bringing together entertainment professionals and climate activists to share tools on communicating climate “narratives.”

[link removed]

Good Energy is a Los Angeles-based “action” tank that wants to insert climate alarms into both movies and TV. Its sponsors include the Sierra Club, the Climate Emergency Fund, and Aileen Getty, an heiress to the Getty Oil fortune. Bloomberg Philanthropies has paid for its “Playbook for Screenwriting in the Age of Climate Change.”

One of Good Energy’s self-described “standout” successes is an Apple TV+ series starring Meryl Street that exposes how climate change will degrade life over the next 33 years. A Rolling Stone article reports Good Energy’s goal is to have 50% of new TV and film projects acknowledge climate change within the next three years.

One obvious problem is that the Hollywood Glitteratia likes to live self-indulgent lives including flying by private jet. But Good Energy has an answer. It quotes climate activist Bill McKibben that “hypocrisy is the price of admission in this battle.”

In other words, Hollywood will continue to live well. The rest of us (as Marie Antoinette said) “can eat cake,” which was actually the hardened crust left over from baking bread. Or crickets, if we’re lucky.

We have an idea. Why doesn’t Hollywood just get back to the good old days when they made movies that entertain us.
