We kicked off 2024 with my State of the County address, where I shared the great work we’re doing together to make our county stronger, safer, and more resilient than ever before – and I made a big announcement. Watch the full speech at miamidade.gov/stateofthecounty. We also celebrated Black History Month and I’m excited to share many of the rich events we hosted across our County.

305 Future Ready Bond
At the State of the County, I announced that Commissioner Cohen Higgins and I will introduce a forward-looking bond package on November’s ballot. The $2.5 billion, 305 Future Ready Bond will fund pressing challenges like housing, septic to sewer, flooding, and parks in every corner of our county. As the 2024 Building Better Communities Bond comes to an end, it’s time for an update that will ensure our community can continue building for the future.
Save big on flood insurance
Miami-Dade County was upgraded to a Class 3 in the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System (CRS)! This means that, due to our strong flood planning and management, homeowners and businessowners in unincorporated Miami-Dade will receive a 35% discount on flood insurance premiums. Now that’s resiliency work paying off.
Modernization in Action at MIA
MIA is soaring to new heights. With a historic $7 billion in significant capital infrastructure investments and $1.7 Billion in maintenance, we’re making future ready improvements from elevators and escalators to a new parking garage which recently broke ground. MIA also recently received $27 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve the Central Terminal and Concourses E and F.
Miami-Dade goes to Tallahassee
I traveled to Tallahassee for Miami-Dade County Days at the Florida Capitol alongside local officials, business leaders, and community activists from across our county. There, I met with legislators from our Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation to thank them for sponsoring the county's funding requests and to address concerns related to preemption and transportation policy proposals with major fiscal impacts.

Miami-Dade made history! Our first Black woman Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, Stephanie Daniels, was sworn in. And Sherea Green, the second Black woman to serve as Director of Corrections & Rehabilitation, also took charge this month.
Building a resilient and affordable future for all
New solar panels were unveiled on the MetroWest Detention Center, getting us one step closer to our goal of all county buildings going solar.
