Dear Supporter,

The Maryland Green Party urges its supporters to attend this Sunday's protest against bipartisan targeting of immigrant populations with aggressive raids and deportations. Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, a Democrat, has maintained an Intergovernmental Service Agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to imprison immigrants in the Howard County Detention Center. Join a broad coalition of activists demanding an end to this policy.

Join us on Sunday, August 11, at 3:30pm at the Howard County Detention Center, 7301 Waterloo Rd, Jessup, MD 20794.


Here is the call from Hinenu, a Baltimore-area Jewish social justice community, inviting all to participate in Sunday's action:

"Tisha B'Av (the 9th of Av) is a day of communal mourning, commemorating several catastrophes in Jewish history. This year on Tisha B'Av, we demand an end to the modern catastrophe of deportations and detention camps. Jews throughout Maryland and allies will demonstrate publicly that we will not turn our backs on refugees arriving in our country or on our immigrant neighbors already here. Join us to study, read, sing, bear witness, and call on ICE and CBP to #ClosetheCamps."

The Green Party's platform calls for an end to policies that allow local police to work as agents of federal immigration agencies. The Green Party opposes militarization of borders, has demanding a halt to ICE raids, and has called for amnesty for undocumented individuals living in the U.S. and a quick path for citizenship for those who seek it. The Green Party also acknowledges that migration from crisis areas is often the result of dangerous U.S. economic policies and military actions, and seeks to end those disastrous policies.? ??
