Last week, the Senate Elections Committee took a significant step forward in advancing the Ranked Choice Voting Local Options bill (SF 3868), passing it out of committee. This historic milestone brings us closer to providing local jurisdictions across Minnesota with the opportunity to adopt Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) if they so choose.
Not only does this bill offer local control and a level playing field for all cities, counties, and school districts, but it also establishes crucial election standards for the consistent implementation of RCV and facilitates the certification of RCV voting equipment and tabulation systems, ultimately expediting election results.
And now, it’s go time. The next crucial step is presenting the bill to the House Elections Finance and Policy Committee. We should have the hearing date soon; stay tuned! As we strive to keep up the momentum and ensure the passage of the RCV bill, I must also bring your attention to our end-of-month goal: raising $10,000 to support our efforts.
