Dear ,

Next Friday, 8th March, is International Women’s Day. It’s a time of celebration, solidarity and reflection. It’s a day where women’s voices are front and centre.

As the leading organisation working with men to prevent violence against women, we will be listening carefully to these voices. Because these stories, the good ones as much as the more challenging ones, guide our work with men and boys.

Violence against women and girls is not a women’s issue. It’s up to men to challenge unhealthy and harmful masculine norms that lead to women living in fear of violence and experiencing it – in all its forms.

This week, as you participate in awareness-raising events for International Women’s Day at work, at school and within your community, we encourage you to wear the White Ribbon as a reminder that women deserve to lead full lives free from the fear of violence. Wearing the White Ribbon can spark conversations about the importance of men stepping up, every day, to eliminate this fear.

International Women’s Day is a time when many young people are first exposed to the issue of gender equality. Download our Building Gender Equality Resource and encourage your child's school, your workplace or a local school to adopt the lesson plans into their curriculum.
