Our race has not been considered worthy of national attention because it is not seen as a winnable contest by the political establishment. I believe it is incredibly important. This is the third congressional district for me in 6 years because Georgia’s Republican controlled government has done its best to change districts to keep themselves in power. At the federal level, Georgia Republicans continue to tow the party line, speaking against future-forward investments while welcoming the new jobs and technological advances the largest infrastructure bill in our history has brought to north Georgia.
This is a challenging time for the Christian for Congress team. We have traveled across north Georgia to listen to voters to understand what is important to you. I have held weekly online meetings to keep you up on what is happening in your government. Despite the massive support in meeting rooms and digital spaces, we are behind. As we approach end-of-month fundraising goals, facing the biggest expense of the race thus far, my monetary support does not meet my online and in-person support. That means that, once again, if those of us who live in the 7th District want the representation, we deserve it will be up to us to take action. So today, we are setting a fundraising goal of $5,000 through this weekend to give us the opportunity to make a strong showing during qualification and allow the campaign to come out swinging in what is sure to be a heated primary season.
Congressional campaigns can cost hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars to run. Fortunately, the Christian for Congress team has perfected ways to run on way less than that -- so I am not asking you for that much money. I do, however, need your help with the little steps along the way. Consider the following giving recommendations:
These small amounts make a big difference. If everyone on my email list donates $10, I will reach my $5,000 goal. So please, give what you can keeping in mind two things: the maximum individual donation this cycle is $3,300, and every little bit helps.
Obviously, qualification is critical. Without candidates on the ballot, north Georgians will be deprived of voices that stand for them. The gerrymanderers will have won. We can't let this happen, but, sadly we have already seen this scenario playing out across our state. In both the 11th and 9th Congressional Districts, Democrats have lost great candidates -- Antonio Daza and Mike Ford, respectively -- primarily because of a lack of funding.
Like most grassroots organizations I am blessed to have an overwhelming number of volunteers ready to make phone calls, knock on doors, and do the day-to-day grunt work of campaigning. Dozens of truly talented individuals are generously donating their skills and knowledge to help me build my team in the early stages of this contest. The only ingredient that is missing from the equation is money.
This is a tough question for me. I do not like asking for money. But despite what the media thinks, I believe the 7th Congressional District is important. This is a big mountain to climb and it is going to take all of us to reach the top. As my team continues to build our coalition and make your voices heard across the state and the nation, I can't begin to describe how honored and humbled I am that y'all have allowed me to be your candidate and nominee. It is truly an experience that I will never forget, and I believe it will only be topped by the feelings that will come when you elect me as a United States Representative for the 7th Congressional District of Georgia.
Let’s give them a real race. Help me speak up for you.
